Privacy policy

FindChanged (“we”) is operated by Zhaowu Li. This policy explains what information we handle when you use FindChanged, and how. Questions or requests: [email protected].

1. The files you compare

Files you open in FindChanged are read, compared, edited and exported entirely inside your browser. They are never uploaded to us or anyone else, and we cannot see their names or contents. When you close the page, they are gone; we do not keep a copy anywhere.

The workspace page that handles your files loads no advertising, analytics or other third-party scripts, and the browser is instructed to block it from sending data anywhere except our own feedback service (see section 3).

2. Information stored in your browser

• Language preference (findchanged.lang): remembers whether you chose English or Chinese.
• Anonymous visitor ID (findchanged.visitor): a random identifier created only when you first send feedback, so that several reports from the same visitor can be linked. It contains nothing about you.

Both are stored in your browser’s local storage, never leave your device except as described in section 3, and can be removed by clearing site data in your browser. We do not set cookies.

3. Feedback

If you choose to send feedback, we receive:

• the description you write and any attachments you add yourself (please check attachments for private information first);
• your browser and version, interface language, app version, the page you were on, and the codes of recent on-screen messages (codes only — never file names, cell contents or search terms);
• the anonymous visitor ID described above;
• your IP address, used only to prevent abuse such as mass submissions.

Feedback is sent over an encrypted connection through Cloudflare (see section 6) and stored on our own server in Japan, where only the people who maintain FindChanged can read it. We keep it for 24 months and then delete it. To have your feedback deleted earlier, email us with its reference number.

4. Usage statistics

We do not currently collect usage statistics. If we add them, we will use a privacy-friendly service that does not use cookies or track you across sites, will not run it on the workspace page, and will update this policy first.

5. Advertising

There is currently no advertising. If we add it, it will appear only on pages that never contain your files (such as the home and help pages), and where the law requires it we will ask for your consent before any advertising cookies are used.

6. Hosting and server logs

FindChanged is delivered through Cloudflare, which hosts the website and carries feedback to our server. Like any website, when your browser requests a page, Cloudflare receives your IP address and browser details. Cloudflare processes this on our behalf, mainly to deliver the pages and protect the service against attacks, as described in Cloudflare’s privacy policy. Cloudflare operates worldwide, so this may happen outside the country where you live.

We do not keep access logs of the website ourselves. Our feedback server records only the feedback described in section 3.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you, or to object to its use. Because we hold very little — only feedback you chose to send — the simplest way to exercise these rights is to email [email protected] with your feedback reference number. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.

8. Children

FindChanged is a general-purpose tool and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

9. Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be announced on the home page.
